Well, one player of the Colorado Rockies is trying to start the media frenzy for position players a couple weeks prior to their showing up for spring training. Just days before the pitchers and catchers arrive for spring training, first baseman Todd Helton stole the headlines, but probably not in the manner he was hoping for in launching his final year in the game.

The five-time Major League Baseball All-Star was recently arrested on charges for drunken driving and careless driving. In a statement released by Helton, he acknowledged his lack of judicious judgment and behavior and said that he had fallen short of the high standard he has tried to build his career and reputation upon.

The police have not released what his blood-alcohol levels were, but acknowledged that it was over the legal limit. They picked up Helton after he visited a gas station near his home residence when someone called in to report a drunken driver. The Thornton police found Helton driving his Ford F-150 and arrested him for DUI. He was later released to a friend after his booking.

Colorado police are trying to crack down on those driving under the influence as DUI offenses have been on the rise over the past year. The consequences of a DUI can be serious and lead to the loss of your driver's license, fines, jail time, increased insurance rates, as well as liabilities for damages caused in the event of an accident. With so much at stake, it is imperative that you speak to a criminal defense attorney that you can trust as soon as you are arrested for a DUI or DWAI. A knowledgeable attorney can help guide you through the coming legal matters that will arise as a result of the DUI charges.
